Who this guide is for

You're weighing up 3rd arrondissement and want to picture life there concretely — the real feel, daily life, budget and commute — before you commit.

The essentials in 2 minutes
  • 3rd arrondissement in a word: upper marais, hipster, galleries, lgbtq+ (3e arr.).
  • Budget: around 1 600–2 000 € a month for a 1-bed (~40 m²) / month — an indicative range; the exact rent by number of bedrooms is in the app.
  • Transport: M3 · M8 · M11.
  • Whether 3rd arrondissement actually fits you — ranked against 19 other arrondissements on YOUR budget, commute and priorities — is what the Veia app decides.

Life in the 3rd arrondissement

The upper Marais, the genuinely livable version of the area: galleries, young designers, speciality coffee, an LGBTQ+ scene and the Marché des Enfants Rouges, the oldest in Paris. Beautiful, central and full of life, a short walk from République and Bastille (M3, 8, 11). Daily life is pleasant — rue de Bretagne for shopping, rue Charlot for boutiques — but it's expensive, packed at weekends and calm isn't the priority. Few green spaces and little parking. Ideal for those who want the Marais's charm without the museum-like tourism of the 4th next door; mostly singles and couples.

Budget & transport

  • Indicative rent : 1 600–2 000 € / 1-bed (~40 m²) / month
  • Transport : M3 · M8 · M11
  • Area : 3e arr.

Insider tip

Marché des Enfants Rouges (the oldest), rue de Bretagne for eating, rue Charlot for shopping. The truly livable Marais is here, rather than the touristy 4th.
